Garland McPherson, II President

Garland McPherson, II, is Chairman and President of United Presbyterian Ministries of Maryland, Inc. (“UPM”), which provides low income housing for the elderly primarily in the City of Baltimore.  Known as Westminster House, UPM provides affordable housing to over 275 qualifying residents, who live in an eighteen (18) story property located at the foot of historic Mount Vernon Place. 

Additionally, he is Managing Member of Garland McPherson & Associates, LLC (“GM&A”), a Baltimore, Maryland based investment bank.  GM&A provides corporate finance and investment banking services to middle market and large corporate clients located in the mid-Atlantic region of the US. GM&A provides its services principally to the financial services, business services, insurance brokerage, manufacturing and distribution industries. Principally these services are provided to sellers and buyers of businesses.

Generally GM&A focuses on building shareholder value for clients.  These services include search, analysis, due diligence, definitive agreement execution and rendering Fairness Opinions. Particular expertise is held in the insurance brokerage, investment funds management and other fee income businesses.

GM&A maintains a valuation practice, where our services have been used to value businesses, concepts and patents for ESOP, estate, gifting and tax planning purposes.  GM&A staff and associates have performed over 500 valuations in their careers.  

Additionally, Garland has been a long time member of Second Presbyterian Church located in Baltimore, where he currently serves as a Trustee and volunteered in several rolls, most recently as a member of the Legacy Society Committee, and, with another church member, initiated Second’s volunteer and funding relationship with neighboring Guilford Elementary/Middle School, a Baltimore inner city school.

Garland lives in Lutherville, Md. with his wife, Harriette. He enjoys playing both golf and tennis and with Harriette, they find time to visit their four children, eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild, who are spread around the county.
